Track officials want 2013 race date changed

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Circuit of the Americas officials say they hope Formula One will change the date of the 2013 U.S. Grand Prix to avoid a conflict with a University of Texas home football game the same weekend.

The track near Austin opened last month to rave reviews with more than 260,000 attending the three-day race weekend. The 2013 race has been scheduled for Nov. 17 with practice and qualifying on Friday and Saturday.

Texas hosts a home football game that same weekend. Track and university officials worry both events will bring a crush of people to Austin and strain access to hotel rooms and disrupt transportation.

Track chairman Bobby Epstein says he's confident F1 officials are working to find a solution, but acknowledged the race date may not be changed.
