Ferrari signs De La Rosa as development driver

MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO, Italy (AP) Ferrari has signed Pedro De La Rosa as a development driver for the upcoming Formula One season.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali made the announcement on Wednesday at Ferrari's annual winter retreat in the Italian Dolomites.

He says "we must anticipate problems we have and focus on simulation. We think Pedro is the right person to develop this type of activity."

De La Rosa was left without a drive after the HRT team closed at the end of last season.

The 41-year-old Spanish driver has started 105 grands prix, with Arrows, Jaguar, McLaren and Sauber, as well as HRT.

De La Rosa will be reunited with former McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso.

Ferrari will reveal its new car on Feb. 1 at Maranello.
