INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Black Coaches & Administrators have selected Notre Dame associate head coach Carol Owens as its new president.

BCA executive director Floyd Keith announced the decision Tuesday.

Owens is serving her second stint on Notre Dame's coaching staff. She was Muffet McGraw's top assistant from 1995-96 through 2004-05, then returned to the staff in the same role in 2010-11. She also spent five seasons as head coach at Northern Illinois, Owens' alma mater.

During her two stints at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish went to three Final Fours and won the 2001 national championship.

In 2008, she joined the Women's Basketball Coaching Association board of directors, where she served as the executive committee secretary until 2011 when she stepped down to join the BCA's 11-member board.
