He is an aggressive player who is uses his body well to shield defenders. Cardozo appeared primarily as a substitute striker for Paraguay, and both his goals as a reserve during World Cup qualifying were winners, providing a 1-0 victory over Peru and a 2-0 lead in a 2-1 win over Venezuela. Nicknamed "Tacuara," which means "Big Cane" in Paraguay's Indian language of Guarani, Cardozo has become a highly sought forward for the European powers. He won Portugal's Golden Boot with 26 goals in league play and 38 overall this season for Benfica, raising his total to 56 in 82 matches since joining the club in 2007. Cardozo made the jump to Europe after two seasons with Argentine club Newell's Old Boys, tallying 21 goals in 33 matches and earning a spot on Paraguay's 2007 Copa America squad.
