BioOne of Argentina's most accomplished defenders, Heinze is expected to provide leadership and poise for a team expected to compete for a third World Cup title in South Africa. Heinze has won six domestic titles with four clubs in England, France and Spain while also helping Argentina to a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. His strong and steady play along the backline should prove to be vital again after he played four games at the 2006 World Cup as Argentina was eliminated by host Germany on penalties in the quarterfinals. Heinze gained worldwide notoriety when he was purchased by Manchester United in June 2004. He helped the English club to the 2006-07 league title but injuries hampered his three-season stint before moving to Spanish giant Real Madrid. In his first season in Spain, Heinze won the domestic league and super cup, but he struggled at times and was sold to France's Marseille prior to this season. His first season at Marseille also brought titles, as the club won its first Ligue 1 title in 18 years and a Coupe de la Ligue championship while Heinze had a revival. Player Stats
