BioA powerful, gifted forward, not always given the plaudits he deserves, Emile Heskey is a vastly experienced player and seems destined to play a big part for England in South Africa. Having made his mark for Leicester City, Heskey made an 11 million pounds move to Liverpool and despite striking up a devastating partnership with Michael Owen for club and country was never highly regarded at Anfield. He was subsequently sold to Birmingham City for 3.5 million pounds in 2004. For the next few seasons, inconsistent form and injury blighted his career and he spent three years at Wigan before signing for Aston Villa in the summer of 2009. Many question the record of a striker who averages a goal just once every four games in more than 600 first team appearances but Heskey, when on form, is a player who improves the net goal output of a team. His strength and direct running, plus his aerial threat and ability to hold up the ball, increase the attacking options for his team-mates. These are the reasons Heskey is so highly regarded by Fabio Capello who will expect the Villa striker to provide the space and time for the likes of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard to get England goals in South Africa.
