BioVastly experienced goalkeeper David James combines excellent shot-stopping ability, a commanding personality and impressive physical presence. However, inconsistency and a tendency to make glaring errors have dogged his career, limiting what would have otherwise been a lengthy spell in the England team. After starting his career at Watford in 1988, James spent the best part of a decade at Liverpool, before joining Aston Villa in 1999. Further spells with West Ham and Manchester City didn't see the keeper shrug off his 'Calamity James' tag, but he has rejuvenated his career at Portsmouth, earning a recall to the England set-up and winning the FA Cup in 2008. James' experience makes him a key member of England's squad off the pitch, and while he will face a tough task ousting Robert Green, the 39-year-old will be more than capable of doing the job if called upon.
