BioDonovan is an attacking midfielder who is the United States' all-time leader in goals and assists, and generally considered the greatest outfield player the country has ever produced. A creative force with outstanding speed and vision, Donovan is known for his ability to run at defenders while applying constant pressure on opponents. Professionally, Donovan had a major impact in his first taste of action in the English Premier League during a 10-week loan stint at Everton in which he was a regular in the lineup with fellow U.S. teammate goalkeeper Tim Howard. Donovan scored twice in 13 games in all competitions for the Toffees and became a fan favorite at Goodison Park, where supporters begged him to stay. Donovan, though, returned to Major League Soccer with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the club he teamed up with David Beckham to lead to the MLS Cup title game in 2009 after Donovan earned his first league MVP honor. Donovan hasn't missed a beat since returning from England, getting one goal and nine assists in eight games. He previously won two MLS Cup championships with the San Jose Earthquakes. He's also had stints in the German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. It was clear early that Donovan would be an influential player for the United States since he was named one of the top players in the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Championship. Donovan scored twice in the 2002 World Cup to help lead the United States to the quarterfinals. Most recently, he captained the side and helped inspire the United States to victory over top-ranked Spain and to a two-goal lead in an eventual 3-2 loss to Brazil in the championship match of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
