The highly-rated Gokhan Inler is hot property in Italy after a string of outstanding performances in the middle of the park for Serie A club Udinese. The tough-tackling Switzerland midfielder is expected to move to a bigger club at some stage in the future. It was reported that Arsenal – who had been tracking his progress over a couple of years - made an unsuccessful big-money bid for Inler during the January 2010 transfer window. After starting out at FC Basel and spells at FC Aarau and FC Zurich, Inler moved to Italy in summer 2007 after signing for Udinese. Born in the Swiss town of Olten, the tenacious Inler made his international debut on 12 September 2006 in a home friendly against Venezuela. He started all three matches played by Switzerland at Euro 2008 and was in the starting line-up for eight of Switzerland's ten 2010 World Cup qualifying matches. Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld will have a good range of playmakers available in South Africa but Inler is likely to be the team's midfield enforcer.
