Arguably the player under the most pressure to produce for Honduras, Welcome made the 23-man roster after fellow striker Carlos Costly suffered a broken foot playing for his club May 6, an injury that is expected to sideline him for the World Cup. Welcome, a 25-year-old forward, has two goals in 12 international matches for Los Catrachos, including the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Latvia in a November 2009 friendly. He appeared as a substitute in all of Honduras' first three friendlies in 2010, playing a total of 51 minutes. Welcome was the top scorer in the 2008-09 Apertura for Honduras club side Motagua and has 23 goals in 64 matches. He made one appearance in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying, playing the final 24 minutes in a 2-1 loss to the United States.
