A Barcelona legend, Xavi is a technically gifted attacking midfield player, who operates in a central playmaker role for both club and country. With a wonderful range of passing and exceptional composure on the ball, the 30-year-old gets the best out of the players around him through his intelligent use of possession. A product of the Barcelona academy, Xavi has made over 350 appearances for the Catalan giants, picking up a host of honours. He played a vital part in Barca's phenomenal 2008/2009 season, finishing third in the FIFA World Player of the Year Award and winning the UEFA Club Best Midfielder Award. Vice-captain of the club since 2005, he will almost certainly see out his career at the Camp Nou. One of a number of world-class players in the Spain side, Xavi is the fulcrum of the midfield, playing in a central role, usually ahead of Marcos Senna and flanked by David Silva and club colleague Andres Iniesta. Player of the Tournament as Spain won Euro 2008, Xavi has nothing left to prove, but would want to produce his best on the biggest stage in football, and is likely to play a big part if Spain make it as far as expected in South Africa.
